Our 2nd biggest gate of the season and its a 1-0 win
That's one of the ten games out the way and we start with a win.I am not sure that the word "slog" is correct but I will use it. This was a slog of a game against a side that seemed to have most of their team in midfield which meant for chunks of the game our midfield was trying to play them when we were pushed back tight up against our own defenders. Balls over the top sorted that problem but that was only when we had possession. Sheffield United gave us a game and we responded. We scored early, missed a few chances and battled and grafted. We kept a clean sheet and if my memory serves me right we restricted them to one decent shot on goal that Jordan Archer dealt well with.
Ben Thompson amazes me, he is not a big bloke but dominates his space and everybody else's when given the chance. He is going to have a future and hopefully most of it spent at The Den
Mahlon Romeo was lively on the right wing and he created a outlet from defence which was different from just putting the ball over the top and he caused Sheffield problems all game long.

We scored with less than two minutes on the clock and Chris Taylor must be over the moon as he comes back to Millwall again on loan and lashes a Steve Morison cross into the back of the net. Going into the lead early did not mean that Sheffield were there for the taking and they were making it a tough old game for the Lions as the visitors kept possession for periods of time and tackled hard when they didn't.They still had to deal with our defence and this is where they came up blank and Jordan Archer didn't have to make a save of any note in the rest of the first half. We had more chances before the half-time whistle but yet again we are not very good with one-on-ones with the keeper and both Lee Gregory and Steve Morison missed again.
Sheffield defend in numbers
The second half was won of those chunks of the game that saw the opposition push from the midfield that had Jimmy Abdou and Chris Taylor at times pushed back, playing deep and facing the wrong way. The Lions defence held firm and a solid performance and as I said earlier restricted Sheffield to one decent shot on goal which Jordan Archer dealt with superbly. After missing out on the full three points at Swindon when we conceded late you could see that the team were in no mind to do it again and all them put in the shift to make sure "no repeat performance. I am thoughtful that it looks like we "have got our Millwall back" and although we are not mistake free we are doing a lot more right than wrong.
I was bang on with my prediction in my earlier post regarding the attendance as 11,000 or thereabouts.
