WE WENT FOR IT

Yet another win as we overcome a decent Oxford side and most of the second half we were playing with ten men. We could not overcome the 2-0 defeat at home but we continue with our good away form. If only David Forde had not made that basic goal keeping error at our place or if we had scored a goal at home because after all, we were only playing a 4th division side. I suppose football is all about if's.  A good result on the night but no Wembley final for us but there is the League One Play-off's and at this moment in time we are in with a shout.

We started with a flourish and had the first chance of the game when a Steve Morison effort was blocked on the line and he went close again shortly afterwards when he headed a Shane Ferguson's ball past the wrong side of the bar. Oxford who were not committing much forward had their first raid on the Lions goal after 20 minutes but it didn't add to much. Jed Wallace was getting in on the action and made their keeper work for his corn when he fired one in from a decent distance..

 0-0 half time

We started the second half with still having the believe that we could get something from this game and just after ten minutes Lee Gregory set up Steve Morison but he was closed down by the Oxford keeper and nothing come about. Three minutes later we were 1-0 up when Aiden O'Brien sent a cross in from the left and Gregory received the ball, turned and smacked into the back of net. We still had time to win this game and then Mark Beever's gets sent off for bringing down a Oxford man closing in on goal. He took one for the team but we could have done with out it. There was still 26 minutes to go and with a reshuffled ten men Lions we carry on going forward roared on by our top draw travelling away support. On another day Fred Onyedinma would have buried that chance after being set up by Gregory but on this occasion it wasn't to be and that was that.

I hate the fact that Oxford's ground is named after the money bags that came in and finished building it. Self gratification or what.
